Attorneys and Trust Officers

Your Eldercare Consultants Work Closely with Attorneys and Trust Officers

Attorneys and Trust Officers often see older adults who have complex legal or financial issues related to the aging process. Over the course of many years, these professionals develop a close, trusting relationship with their clients. As a result, older clients may feel comfortable reaching out to them, looking for answers about complex aging issues that require the guidance from a different type of professional—a geriatric care manager.

Your Eldercare Consultants are often called upon by attorneys and trust officers to provide solutions to a variety of challenges that may surface when working on an elderly client’s legal or financial issues.

Here is an example of how a Trust Officer worked with our team:

A Trust Officer had developed a warm relationship with his 92-year-old beneficiary over their 20-year relationship.  However, as she aged, it became clear that her forgetfulness was increasing at an alarming rate. She had been a successful career woman, who traveled extensively and never married.  She was estranged from her family and relied extensively on her Trust Officer.  They had discussed long-term planning and she made it clear that she wanted to remain in her beautiful Lakefront condominium until she died. The Trust Officer was given the authority to do whatever it took to make sure her wishes were honored.

The Trust Officer realized something was changing when his beneficiary would call him several times a day and repeat her questions.  He felt responsible for making sure that she was safe and receiving all the care she needed.  He called Your Eldercare Consultants to check in on her.  Our team found that she had no food in her refrigerator and did not remember when she had last eaten.

Next Steps: Finding the Right Solution

Your Eldercare Consultants arranged for a wonderful live-in caregiver and worked with the caregiver in order to gain the trust and acceptance of the older woman.  The caregiver cooked delicious meals that perked up the woman’s appetite and kept her strong.  Although her dementia continued to progress, Your Eldercare Consultants arranged for her to remain living at home and brought in life-enriching activities, such as a music therapist, to bring joy into the household.  She lived safely and comfortably for five more years with the help of this loving care.  The Trust Officer was relieved that he could provide this support for his long-time client and friend through Your Eldercare Consultants.
